What Remote Work Means to Us
According to the UK's Office for National Statistics and Statista, as of October 2024, 41% of UK workers engage in remote work at least part of the week, with 28% adopting a hybrid model and 13% working from home full-time.
This stat got us thinking, reflecting on our Yalla journey and our incredible team.
After five years of being fully remote, we’ve learned that what truly connects us isn’t physical space. Remote work has allowed us to build something more meaningful: a borderless, diverse team that spans continents and cultures.
What Remote Work Really Means to Us
It means starting a morning meeting with teammates in Palestine while others wrap up their workday on a different continent. It’s about blending perspectives, embracing cultural differences, and problem-solving as a team, even when we’re thousands of miles apart.
Sure, we don’t share an office, but we share something even more valuable: a commitment to doing incredible work together.
Making Remote Work, Work
If you’re considering remote work for your team, here are some lessons we’ve picked up along the way:
- Trust is everything
Give people the freedom to work when and how they’re most productive. - Clear communication keeps you connected
Simple habits, like saying “hi” when you log on and “goodbye” when you wrap up, make a big difference. (Shoutout to Chloe for being the queen of this!) - Diversity is your superpower
Different perspectives aren’t obstacles—they help you think bigger and work better, especially with diverse clients. - Time zones are opportunities
When you embrace them, projects can move forward no matter the hour. - Tech is just a tool—it’s the people who make remote work shine
Tools like Gather can help you recreate the vibe of an office, but it’s your team’s spirit that makes it work.
Building Something Special
For us, remote work has become so much more than a way to avoid commutes. It’s how we’ve built a space where talent and collaboration thrive, unbound by borders. And honestly? That’s what makes this journey so special.
Here’s to what remote teams can achieve when distance isn’t a limitation.
